1 Million Minutes

ITV x Royal Voluntary Service, Home-Start, Winston's Wish, Re-Engage, The Chatty Cafe Scheme and Alzheimer's Research UK

Good Morning Britain's 1 Million Minutes campaign has just celebrated its ninth year, and is the only campaign that asks the public to donate time not money; in a bid to tackle the epidemic of loneliness. Working with six charity partners who all deal with one specific aspect of the world of loneliness, the campaign highlights the work of the organisations and individuals who go above and beyond to help people in their communities who feel alone.

Over the course of the month, we ask the public to make One Big Pledge and donate one hour of time each week for a year. We shared stories of hope and triumph from people who had signed up to volunteer from previous years campaigns, demonstrating the benefits of volunteering, for both the volunteer and the recipient. And with the help of the show's presenters, famous faces and our charity partners, we celebrated the work of volunteers, highlighting that everyday people are making a difference; from DJ-ing at care homes, to taking a seat and having a chat with a stranger in shopping centres across the UK with ‘Chatter Chairs’, hosting tea parties and driving the elderly to appointments, our campaign highlighted the diversity of volunteering that is going on. The widespread reach of the campaign through the medium of TV and social media raised awareness, and showed a positive sentiment, towards the issue of loneliness, and helped change public behaviour towards the epidemic.
