#ValueOurLove Campaign
Kinship
Kinship care keeps vulnerable children out of the care system and significantly improves the child’s long-term outcomes in education, health, and wellbeing. Across England and Wales there are approximately 141,000 children in kinship care. Unfortunately, 80% of kinship families aren’t getting the vital support they need from their local authorities to meet their child’s needs. This unfair system is risking thousands of children’s futures. If kinship carers can’t continue to look after them, they could lose their stable and loving home. That’s why the #ValueOurLove campaign is putting pressure on politicians to increase support for kinship carers and their families. In the last 12 months, #ValueOurLove has achieved a lot, surpassing our own objectives and expectations: * More support for kinship carers has been secured. Our campaigning has led to £44 million of new funding, a new trial of financial allowances for kinship carers and a ‘Kinship Care Ambassador’ role created to work across government. * Kinship care has been raised up the political and media agenda with over 1324 articles and broadcasts secured including items on Good Morning Britain, BBC Breakfast and more. * We have built strong working relationships with government ministers including the Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson, and MPs, with kinship carers meeting and pushing for change countless times.
