Together for the Ocean

The ocean is our life support system - producing half of the Earth's oxygen, regulating our climate, providing a home to diverse wildlife and sustaining the livelihoods of coastal communities. But only 8% is currently protected and ocean threats are multiplying.

Adopted under the Global Biodiversity Framework, 30×30 is a global target to protect at least 30% of the world’s land, freshwater and ocean by 2030. It’s the most ambitious conservation commitment ever made, and our only opportunity to safeguard the ocean’s biodiversity. The science is undeniable but efforts to lobby governments to enact their 30×30 pledges are fragmented, diluting the overall impact. In response to this challenge, Greenhouse devised ‘Together for the Ocean’, an unprecedented coalition for ocean advocacy. We successfully activated a diverse international network of 25+ participating organisations, aligning partners behind a shared set of policy asks and a white label communications campaign. This collective effort has made waves, securing powerful endorsements from high profile political leaders, including John Kerry, Monica Medina, José María Figueres and Peter Thomson, and influential intergovernmental groups like the High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People and the United Nations Environment Programme. With less than six years remaining until the 2030 deadline, there is no time to waste. We’re redoubling our efforts in 2025, strengthening the coalition with new members and devising bold new activations at pivotal policy milestones such as the UN Ocean Conference in June. The momentum is building - and we're just getting started.
