Fairer Energy Future

SEC Newgate UK, working with an alliance of organisations across energy and affected industries, ensured that a damaging change to how the UK’s energy market operated was stopped and future energy investment and jobs across the country were preserved.

This was against high-profile vested interests, led by Octopus Energy, and a Secretary of State who publicly endorsed them, alongside a reform zealous team within the Department legitimising the proposal. In six months, we built a campaign across digital, social and traditional media, building on direct public affairs engagement, including hard hitting research, to force a government U-turn. 

SEC Newgate UK truly deserves this award as we can say without doubt that the campaign played a mission critical role in the UK’s future renewable energy provision and prevented a postcode lottery for bill payers. The campaign led to a positive announcement on 8 July, which prevented an estimated cost of £9.6bn to consumers, saved up to 8,000 jobs in Scotland alone and put £30bn of scheduled onshore wind investment back on the table.
