Parkinson’s UK travel awareness campaign
Trainline
Parkinson’s is a complex neurological condition with more than 40 symptoms, many of which are not immediately visible. This lack of understanding can lead to misinterpretation, judgement or hesitation to offer help - particularly in fast-paced travel settings. Research commissioned by Trainline revealed that only 15% of UK adults feel very confident identifying Parkinson’s symptoms, while over half are unsure. The campaign centred on a simple but powerful initiative: a free badge for people living with Parkinson’s carrying the message, “Patience please, travelling is challenging for me.” Designed in close consultation with Parkinson’s UK and the Parkinson’s community, the badge removes ambiguity, builds confidence for wearers and clearly invites understanding from others without requiring explanation or disclosure. Supported by national research, lived-experience storytelling, PR, social media and a £10 travel contribution for people living with Parkinson’s, the campaign reframed accessibility as a shared responsibility. Research showed that 55% of the public would be more likely to offer help if they saw a visible badge, demonstrating how small signals can unlock empathy and behaviour change. The campaign delivered strong engagement, positive sentiment and sustained demand, while laying the foundations for a scalable model that other charities and conditions can adopt. It shows how brands can use insight-led creativity and co-creation to turn awareness into everyday action.
