The Feeling Ceiling

Client: Frazzled

1 in 4 Brits struggle with their mental health. The charity Frazzled aimed to reduce stigma around feeling stressed or anxious, inspire behaviour change by prompting people to express their feelings, and raise awareness of its community support sessions.

Research revealed a cultural disconnect: while 69% of Brits make daily small talk about topics like the weather, almost half (45%) rarely or never admit how they really feel. Our strategy was to bridge this using something culturally comfortable – talking about the weather. Reframing emotional states as “weather in your head” to make mental health conversations feel familiar and everyday rather than intimidating. ‘The Feeling Ceiling’ brought this to life on Europe’s largest digital ceiling, at Manchester Printworks, asking “How’s the weather in your head today?”, visitors interacted via touchscreens to trigger weather that spelled emotions – from ‘Stressed’ lighting to ‘Tearful’ raindrops to ‘Anxious’ dark clouds. Each resolved to a blue sky with a Frazzled message, such as ‘A chat with Frazzled can brighten your day’. This concept won Gold in Ocean Outdoor’s Digital Creative Competition, awarded a week-long takeover worth £80,000. Launched during Mental Health Awareness Week, the experience generated 2.1M+ reach including a five-minute ITV News feature, and drove a 10% increase in Frazzled bookings, with 85% of attendees consequently feeling ‘sunnier’. The Feeling Ceiling was a powerful idea rooted in a British cultural insight, brought to life in a jaw-dropping visual way, which gave people an easier way to begin difficult conversations and ‘weather their storms’.
