Fair Shot

Refugee Council

Fair Shot is a social media campaign that bring football fans around the country together, celebrating a shared love of the game to create connection and raise awareness about the experiences of refugees in the UK. No matter where we're from or the challenges we've faced, football is something that can bring us together and help us see beyond our differences.

Fair Shot FC are a team of players who have fled to the UK due to war and persecution in their home countries and have come together through the positive impact football has on their lives. Across the 2024/25 football season, Fair Shot FC are travelling to 5 partner clubs - Rotherham United, Preston North End, Sheffield Wednesday, Wolves and QPR - to team up with local fans for matchdays that demonstrate how football can break down barriers and create a shared identity. During these matchdays, we film conversations between local fans and Fair Shot FC players about what football means to them and what they love about their club, using these simple human interactions to change people's perceptions and provide a counternarrative to the way refugees and people seeking asylum are portrayed by the media and politicians. No matter where we come from, everyone deserves a fair shot. This first season of Fair Shot is the start of an exciting journey as we build a movement of fans, clubs and influencers united by this belief, so that the world of football can become a more welcoming place.
