Children’s charity Brainwave and riverside development New Bailey take the typical concept of a “Duck Race” to a whole new level. The 10 Year Anniversary of The Manchester Duck Race was bigger and better than ever, bringing together almost 25,000 visitors to the River Irwell to take part in a day of family fun. With the aim to fundraise as much as possible for Brainwave, The Manchester Duck Race 2019 more than achieved this, with £20,000 raised to help Brainwave continue their work creating personalised cognitive and physical therapy programmes for disabled children.
The day was an Easter bank holiday festival - full of rides, entertainment, street food, Smooth Radio stage, celebrity guests, and those all-important family and corporate duck races down the river!
The incredible success of the Manchester Duck Race 10th Anniversary was the result of months of planning and marketing. A Giant Duck Tour which took an 8m high, inflatable duck, to Manchester hotspots created buzz and anticipation for the event, as well as the “Best Dressed Duck” competition. This encouraged support for the campaign to come not only from families, but also the corporate community. Businesses across Manchester got involved, donated money, and got creative decorating their ducks. “Billing Eve”, “The Quacken”, and “Ziggy Starduck” were just a few highlights.
The Manchester Duck Race is an excellent example of business and charities working together for a greater cause. Long may it continue.
