Open House is a creative mentoring programme for young people from lower socio-economic backgrounds, set up as a collaboration between Soho Impact at Soho House and Creative Mentor Network (CMN).
We’re on a mission to make the creative industries more inclusive, by connecting members from Soho House’s creative community with young adults pursuing a creative career. Open House is a 16-week programme that helps grow connections, confidence and experience, and provides a route for mentees to access their chosen creative field. Each mentee is given a Soho House membership to help grow their network, and matched with a mentor who is trained to provide advice and coaching.
Our programme directly benefits mentees; 94% of them received paid job offers as result of the programme in 2019, as well as growing their networks, developing skill sets and providing a platform for their work. For mentors, it helps to change perceptions and provides the skills to make a difference in their own businesses; 100% of mentors stated they were more aware of barriers to those from diverse backgrounds and feel more equipped to nurture diverse talent. But more than just those taking part, Open House has created a hiring pipeline into the creative industries and opens up a conversation around diversity in the sector to a wider audience.
