Black Lives Matter Virtual Protest

Revolt Communications

The unlawful killing of George Floyd sparked protests across the globe in support of the Black Lives Matter (BLM) Movement. But with the threat of COVID-19 hanging over us, many people were unable to attend out of fear of contracting or passing on the virus.

London Black Lives Matter wanted everyone to be able to show their support for the movement, and rally with those on the ground. Our solution was to create one of the world's largest-ever virtual protests. We listened to those who had taken to the streets with live footage from the ground. Working closely with black grassroots leaders and community groups, live speakers shared their perspectives, giving a platform for essential black voices. With Host Jacqueline Shepherd, we encouraged protestors to donate, educate and create change by signposting them to educational resources, petitions and other ways they could make a difference.

The Zoom demonstration reached a total of 4 million people worldwide, grassroots organisations saw a surge in donations and information requests throughout the day with LDN BLM's social following increasing by 3,000%. The protest gave a voice to the organisations that mattered and a place to continue conversations after the event, helping to create a movement, not just a moment in time.
